Osaka and Kobe arrival

It is after midnight on Saturday am hedre in Japan so I will keep this short. Our trip to Japn ended up being uneventful.  When we landed in Honolulu is was a bright sunny day, but by the time we took off the clouds rolled in and it was raining, in advance of Hurricane Iselle's landfall. The 8 hour flight to Osaka was smooth until we got close to landing, then bumpy.  It was windy raining hard when we landed.  It took us a couple of hours to get through immigration, get bags, exchange currency, get our JR Rail passes and finally head to Kobe.  Given the weather we opted to not take the Bay Shuttle boat, but we went by bus, about 75 minute trip.  We finally got to the hotel around 11pm.  Some of the students were hungry so we dumped our bags and walked a block to the 7-11, where the students got their first kombini (convenience store) experience. We don't start "work" until 11am tomorrow (Saturday) so I imagine some will sleep in.

The typhoon is getting close it is very windy in Kobe, and it will hit tomorrow night or early Sunday am. We have postponed our planned Sunday trip to Hiroshima until the 17th.  Our Sunday plan will depend on weather conditions and if the trains are running.  One option we are considering is going to an onsen (hot spring) of which there are many around Kobe.

Hopefully the students will start posting their thoughts and photos.  Stay tuned.
